Baldur's Gate 3 will soon support the popular feature
Larian Studio plans to add mod support to Baldur's Gate 3 this year. This feature will be added to all platforms.
Larian Studios doesn't seem to have any plans to release an expansion pack for Baldur's Gate 3, at least in the near future, but it has supported the role-playing game well with regular updates and major patches since its release. Now, this Belgian developer plans to add full support for the game in 2024.
Michael Doss , the head of publishing department of Larian Studio, recently announced on the X social network that the development team has been working on cross-platform mod support for Baldur's Gate 3 for some time. According to Doss, although the feature is still in the works, the current plan is to add it to the game in 2024.
"We usually don't talk about anything until it's ready, but as you may have read, we've made an exception," Doss wrote on X's social network. We've been working on a robust, cross-platform mod support program that will be released later this year. We very much welcome and support our modding community. This feature is coming.
We have a system, but it needs testing and still needs work. We are excited for it. I find it sad that mods are having problems with game updates. Our user community teams will start talking and coordinating with the modding community. Currently, work on it continues."
Larian Studio also announced in a message shared through its official Discord server that the plan is to provide mod support for things like classes, user interface, customization, spells, and some game resources and mechanics. Mod support will be added in patch number 7 of Baldur's Gate 3, which is still a few months away from its release. In the message of Larian Studio in Discord, it is stated:
“We've been working on official mod support for a while now, we want the best for you, including creating a solution that allows mod creators to publish their mods across multiple platforms. In collaboration with platform providers, we are working to make this a reality and a team is being formed to support the mod classification system.
Our goal is to provide mod support for things like classes, UI, customization, spells, and some game resources and mechanics. As this is no small feat, we hope to introduce the early stages of mod support in our next big patch, which is still a few months away. Although you may be disappointed now, we are interested in working with you on this and have plans to contact the famous mod creators to discuss further and work with them to prevent future problems."
Baldur's Gate 3 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X platforms. The Xbox Series S can be experienced. It was recently revealed that the game brought in $90 million for Hasbro, the company behind Wizards of the Coast, which owns the Baldur's Gate franchise.
