Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Elden Ring, said that he will probably hand over the direction of FromSoftware's next Soulslike game to someone else.
Hidetaka Miyazaki , president of FromSoftware, recently announced that he wants to hand over the directing duties of the studio's next Souls-like game to someone else. He was the developer of Armored Core: Last Raven in 2005 and then directed Armored Core 4 and Armored Core: For Answer in 2006 and 2008 respectively. Next, he directed the game Demon's Souls, which became the founder of the Souls-like genre, and became better known with the game Dark Souls in 2011.
Hidetaka Miyazaki did not direct Dark Souls 2, but since 2015 he has taken the helm of almost all of Framsoft's major projects, and has directed Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Déraciné, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring. directed
Hidetaka Miyazaki has undoubtedly played a huge role in the developer's success in recent years as the person responsible for FromSoftware's biggest projects, however, it's likely that FromSoftware's next Souls-like game will be directed by someone other than Miyazaki. In an interview with IGN media, he announced that he wants to leave the responsibility of directing the next Soulslike games to other people and even wants to not have a supervisory role in those games.
"Yes, I think it's very likely that we'll see new directors in the future, and if we do, I'd like to step away from overseeing them as well and give the new directors full control and direction of those projects," Miyazaki said. "I really think this is the best and easiest way for them to flourish in that environment and new projects."
Game director Elden Ring went on to talk about not directing Dark Souls 2 and his supervisory role on that project, calling it a small regret. He said about this: "I enjoy the many projects in which I am active as a director; So I think I'm not used to the supervisory role and maybe it's not very suitable for me."
Currently, FromSoftware Studio is working on the Shadow of the Erdtree add-on for Elden Ring. The developer currently has no plans to make Elden Ring 2 or another expansion pack. In addition, FramSoftware wants to develop more games from the Armored Core series in the future.
