The Outlast 3 game could have been made before the multiplayer version of this series
The developer of The Outlast Trials believes that this game could have been released after The Outlast 3.
The Outlast Trials game is the latest horror work of Red Barrel Games studio, which is scheduled to be released on March 5, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 , PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Xbox Series S will be released. The Outlast Trials game has been in early access for Steam players since May 2023, and recently the game's lead designer Philip Morin confirmed that the project has been in development for 6 years.
Now fans of the Outlast series want to know more about the motivation of the production team to produce a spin-off instead of The Outlast 3 in this long opportunity. Maureen explained to Windows Central media about this:
“We could have released The Outlast 3 much earlier. We were a bit tired and it took about four or five months for people on the team to migrate to Unreal Engine 4; Therefore, it was necessary to use new technologies. As we were brainstorming ideas for the next game, we finally decided to go for a multiplayer experience this time; Because we wanted to create a new challenge for ourselves by starting a new project, similar to trying to make The Outlast 2 a more engaging narrative than the first game.
The original concept of The Outlast Trials was conceived as a twist on the first installment of the series. Instead of telling the story of a reporter trying to investigate the gruesome experiments at the Murkoff Corporation, the design team wanted to tell the story of a group of reporters as victims trying to escape.
The director of The Outlast Trials continued: “You have to work together and try to survive. That was the idea we were thinking about how to make it work. This is how we came up with the idea of making a multiplayer game. If we had known from the beginning that this multiplayer game would take 6 years to make, we might have released The Outlast 3 first. However, we are very satisfied with what we have done so far and we think it has been worth it."
The Outlast Trials sold over 500,000 copies on Steam in its first week of early access and received positive feedback from players.
