A senior member of Arrowhead Game, the developer of Helldivers 2 game, denied the rumor that the studio was bought by Sony.
Usually Sony's interactive entertainment department chooses studios for purchase that they have cooperated with for several years as a second-party. For example, developers such as Gorilla Games Studio, Insomniac Games, Housemark and Bluepoint Games worked exclusively with Sony for several years until they were bought by this company after a few years.
Recently, Sony has released the game Helldivers 2 in cooperation with the independent Arrowhead Game studio, which achieved an unexpected success. Considering this success, it can be said that not only the way is open for more cooperation between Sony and this studio, but Arrowhead Game seems to be among the possible options for purchase by PlayStation.
With these interpretations, it is natural for various rumors and reports to be published on the Internet claiming that Arrowhead Game was purchased by Sony. Recently, there has been a rumor that Sony has reached an agreement with this studio to buy Arrowhead Game. However, before this rumor became more widespread, Johan Pilstedt , the CEO and director of Arrowhead Game Studio, on the X social network (formerly Twitter) clearly called this rumor fake and denied being bought by Sony.
Sony Interactive Entertainment recently laid off 900 employees worldwide, affecting not only major studios like Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, and Gorilla Games, but even shutting down the London studio entirely. Also, the development of some projects of different studios have been canceled; Therefore, it can be said that in such a situation, the issue of buying a new studio by Sony does not seem very logical, at least for a while, and if such news is published on the Internet, we should look at it completely as a rumor.
